Does the IRS tax your State Income tax?

Vince Delarge: no they don't tax your state each taxing place taxes their own taxes only

Chris Wilczewski: no

Vickie Sterbenz: The IRS taxes federal only, your state you live in taxes the amount you should pay them.

Willa Holte: Your question is unclear. IRS does tax a state income tax retund if you deducted it in the previous year.

Nicolas Cooley: you still owe the state that money, plus interest and penalty now - once you pay that extra tax, you can add it to your itemized deductions on your Federal 1040 in the year you pay it

Mickey Isle: clarification.I didnt do my state income tax last year.the amount is $644I did my state tax on taxslayer.comit says I'm getting $311...Show more

Adrian Sherlin: No. The $311 refund that you are getting back from your state will not be taxed by the federal government.
