Julieta Suleiman: I agree with you; this makes absolutely no sense. However, from the perspective of an outsider, a research/technology worker doesn't earn money for the company, he spends money on his research. A sales/marketing guy actually attracts business and puts dollars into the company's bank account. In reality, this is meaningless, since the sales guys would have no products to sell without the R&D team creating them. Still, that's how many shareholders see things, and that's who the companies try to cater to. Also, in an economic downturn, you can cut R&D folks loose, but your business can't survive even in the short-term without the sales and marketing guys....Show more
