Is this illegal? would mental health charities see it this way?

Jerrod Guilfoil: I don't think it is illegal, but very rude. I have schizo-affective disorder and I find it insulting when people play around and call people "crazy" or other things like that. But, like i said its like calling someone "retarded" or "gay" but I do not think it is illegal. Just morally incorrect. If its a co-worker complain to your boss, another student tell a teacher. Good luck.

Oswaldo Rayburn: It would be considered slander which is illegal.

Lashawnda Anteby: this is not in basic terms because of the fact of unlawful immigrants. Who ever comes right into a wellness center and does not have scientific coverage a wellness center won't be able to draw back a affected person. whilst they take care of them and the sufferers (do no longer/won't be able to) pay then the hospitals lose money. additionally, I heard on a documentary, if somebody became burned with the aid of a Meth Lab it could value as much as one million million money to handle! them. So upload all the persons up who don't have scientific coverage and whilst they are dealt with with the aid of a wellness center, which the sufferers do no longer pay. this is how they get bankrupt....Show more

Adrian Paraz: Sounds more like an opinion as opposed to a diagnosis. The last I knew we were still entitled to those.

Delmer Pectol: I'm not sure what the mental health charities would say... as they are working to eradicate the stigma of mental health, and the question you pose kinda makes me think that you still see a stigma attached to mental health! It is illegal to discriminate on the grounds of disabilty, and that includes mental health problems. Illegal... not as such, but it could be seen as slander. It also depends where you are, in the US the litigation culture is far higher than here in the UK. I suppose you could sue for hurt feelings. If the person suggested that you see a psychologist I would wonder why they said that. It is completely ! different to say that you think someone is nuts and leave it a! t that, which is a plain insult, to saying that you think someone has a problem and you think they should seek help. In the latter it could be that your behaviour has caused concern, but you may be unable to see it yourself. A lot of mental illnesses are diagnosed when someone else has suggested that there is a problem, seeking help first hand is not always common, as people with mental health problems do not think they have anything wrong with the,In order to make a successful claim you would need to have a list of the problems that the accuser says you have, then you would need a psychiatrist to refute these claims based on a clinical evaluation. If you did have a condition such as bipolar you would be covered by disability legislation; thereofore you could not be sacked for having mood swings....Show more

Kelly Bistodeau: Making derogatory comments about someone could be classed as defamation of character, especially if it leads to the target of the comments being p! otentially or actually discriminated against. If, however, it's name calling then you would have a harder legal case to prove BUT IT IS STILL BULLYING and your perfectly within your rights to demand that your school/college/workplace do something about it. Can you provide the context?...Show more
