why register a motorcycle out of state?

Sharron Salin: Cost is one reason- some students will pick the cheapest cost state- as in former state of residence or the state where campus is located and take advantage of state law loopholes for 'Temporary/student riders' Military also can take advantage of multiple state choice many times. If you live near a state border and work in other state that is cheaper you can in many cases legally register in Work state- claim work address for insurance, registration reasons as it is work vehicle. Other reason is if you're in California the motorcycle might not be legal in California but legal to register in Nevada or Arizona, Utah or Oregon- so accommodation address is used for collectors, hot rods and pollution equipment lacking cycles that are run 'temporarily' in California. Another I've done is title and register in state that is more accommodating about old, no title vehicles being put back on road- inspections and bond requirements easier, DOT and Police move faste! r to collect their license fees and cycles and scooters get legal plates quicker. Another reason not so nice- some states like Illinois have a corrupt official that will for a price get a plate for a stolen vehicle- the Secretary of State Paul Powell was doing things like that, the old 'shoe box file'. Denna Prudente: It might be cheaper in another state. However,,,,,the registration would be illegal. It MUST be registered in the state that you live in.
