Elsie Resner: Yep, tax revenue for sure, any ways its better to stay away from gambling...espiceally gambling with casino. You can read a lot of useful info about that www.blockgambling.com or www.casinogamblingaddiction.comwww.blockgambling.com
Arnette Dominici: I agree word for word with Katy. The functions are basically tax revenue, which often goes to schools and education. (Think state lotteries.) In the case of Native American owned casinos, it gives a share of the profitability of the land back to them in a sort of restitution. In private sector, it does provide a lot of jobs in states where gambling is legal. Big casinos provide a large variety of jobs, from security to communications to food service and hotel jobs. Not functional? It can really bring the quality of life down for those who do the gambling, and those who live nearby. It raises the crime rates for robbery and prostitution, it can be a terrible addiction that leads to bankruptcy and loss of pers! onal relationships, and it is often tied into increased use of cigarettes, alcohol, and illegal drugs, not to mention the increased prostitution and sexually transmitted diseases that are higher in legalized gambling areas....Show more
Toshiko Reimers: In terms of society, well the profits gambling makes are all taxed and then that goes to the government. The other way it could be functional is the media portraying bankrupt individuals who have gambled their life away would act as a motivator to the rest of society of what not to end up like.
